Anonymous asked: When are the Boston blog entries coming? ;)
whoops. but i have good news! after 7 months of being here and virtually not having baked anything, i still remember how to make a fruit tart! and i wore flip flops today for the first time since september :)
I just went to Albertsons to buy fruit for a fruit tart. Strawberries were on sale for 2/$5.00. I thought to myself, “Ha, that’s a joke. I’ve seen cheaper at Berkeley Bowl, even when they’re not on sale.” So that’s how I started writing this list… and because I do need a break from packing and being productive.
Things I will miss in California (or in general):
Bay Area Eateries, Destination #16 - Gregoire
This restaurant is rated as one of the best to-go places in the Bay Area! They change their menu every month, so I don’t quite remember what we ordered… I had a tri-tip sandwich, and others ordered a lamb sandwich, duck sandwich, or shrimp sandwich. We also got their roasted fingerling potatoes, but their potato puffs are tastier.
And besides having breakfast at Sweet Adeline bakery the next day (we didn’t get to take pictures of the food because we were crying too much… just kidding), this was my last Bay Area destination (at least for awhile). Stay tuned for Boston eateries. :)
Bay Area Eateries, Destination #15 - La Note
What we ordered:
- Lemon gingerbread pancakes and poached pears
- La Note pain perdu (three slices of semolina French bread soaked in orange water batter and sprinkled with lavender honey)
Bay Area Eateries, Destination #14 - Napoleon Super Bakery
Flaky, buttery, not too eggy, soft, creamy, delicious.
BEST EGG CUSTARD TARTS EVER.
At least in Oakland Chinatown :)
