Because I need a break from packing.
I just went to Albertsons to buy fruit for a fruit tart. Strawberries were on sale for 2/$5.00. I thought to myself, “Ha, that’s a joke. I’ve seen cheaper at Berkeley Bowl, even when they’re not on sale.” So that’s how I started writing this list… and because I do need a break from packing and being productive.
Things I will miss in California (or in...

The fear of Jehovah.

“Then a sprout will come forth from the stump of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. / And the Spirit of Jehovah will rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of Jehovah. / He will delight in the fear of Jehovah: He will neither...
Anonymous asked: Dear (famous) Joan,
Whenever I cooked in Berkeley, I rarely used items other than salt, pepper, extra virgin olive oil, cooking (rice) wine, and teriyaki sauce as things to add to food while cooking or to marinate food. What herbs, spices, etc. do you recommend to add to a cooking "arsenal" (can't think of a better word)?

The spirit and the heart.
Saturday, July 3, 2010 - Young People’s Study Group Time
Today I’d like to share something from Isaiah, but it’s not something from the training messages. I’d like to talk to you about two important things in your pursuit of God, two faculties that you and I were created with. These two faculties are prominent in the Scriptures, especially in the book of Isaiah. What I am referring to is...

Without You life's really nothing...
O Lord, I love You,
I really love You,
Without You life’s really nothing.
You are so attracting,
and You are so charming;
Your riches are unsearchable.
Your name’s so dear and sweet,
Calling makes one satisfied,
Now You are mine and I am Thine, Lord;
Joined and mingled with You,
God-man incorporation,
Foretaste of the New Jerusalem.
