Whenever I cooked in Berkeley, I rarely used items other than salt, pepper, extra virgin olive oil, cooking (rice) wine, and teriyaki sauce as things to add to food while cooking or to marinate food. What herbs, spices, etc. do you recommend to add to a cooking "arsenal" (can't think of a better word)?
